Speed camera laser jammers

It is illegal to use a laser jammer on the UK's roads. Laser jammers are electronic devices used by motorists to block safety cameras and prevent them from detecting their speed.

Commonly disguised as parking sensors or garage door openers, the devices work by receiving the light signal from a laser speed camera, classifying it and then simulating the reflections the device would have seen.

The jammer makes programmed changes to the simulated reflections so that the speedmeter – commonly referred to as a laser gun, LIDAR or speed gun - shows alarm signals to the operator or will give no speed reading.

Cunningly, the reflections are sent in a way that causes alarms that laser operators see every day.

We have assisted a number of police forces in laser jammer cases and have trained many camera operators in how to recognise that laser jammers are in use.

As a result of our expertise, there has been an increase in the number of laser jammer cases in court over the last few years.

There have now been a number of successful prosecutions, which have included prison sentences for the offence of perverting the course of justice.
