Police Vehicle Speedometer Calibration
Road Safety Support’s team of leading experts can calibrate digital and analogue speedometers in police vehicles at our
ISO 17025 accredited UK testing facility or on any road in the world.
More and more vehicles are now being built with integrated digital speedometers, which has posed a problem for police forces. Speedometers can no longer be removed and calibrated in the traditional way.
RSS has developed a method for calibrating electronic speedometers, which is far quicker than the traditional analogue calibration process and does not require the display to be removed from the vehicle.
This service will assist police forces, fire, ambulance and other emergency services in proving the degree of accuracy of individual speedometers, no matter what type of speedometer is fitted in a vehicle.
RSS has already calibrated electronic speedometers in a number of police vehicles in South Wales, Essex and Northamptonshire.
Inspector Gareth Morgan, of South Wales Police Western Roads Policing Unit, said: "In my opinion, the work carried out by RSS has transformed a vehicle that, although ideally suited to the RPU role, was not fit for purpose due to the lack of calibrated speedometer."
He added: "RSS were, to my knowledge, the only company to provide a solution, and we were at the point of decommissioning an otherwise excellent vehicle."
